Our Story

"Sometimes you just have to take the leap and build your wings on the way down." - Kobi Yamada

"That quote stuck to the refrigerator door and stared at us for two years before we took the leap." - Greg Johnson

The seeds had been planted in the mid 1990’s when we studied ceramics at Sawtooth Visual Arts Center in Winston Salem, NC.  For Greg, making pots was natural and “soul saving” from the tensions of his “real job” as a custom software designer and systems analyst.  His talents as a potter quickly emerged and he began to spend more and more time at the studio and to feel drawn to a different way of life.  Donna was an interior designer and was attracted to the decorative elements, textures and glazing details of pottery making.  Our talents were a good match.

The choice to make a drastic life change in  our mid forties wasn’t reasonable nor was the future predictable, but the potential for self-expression and self-direction was too inviting to continue to ignore. Greg eventually left the corporate world and Donna gave up her interior design business.  We moved to the outskirts of Atlanta Georgia and made a commitment to making and selling our pottery against the loving realistic advice of our families.  Our business has grown and we have exhibited our work in twenty states.  Our goal is to make functional art that people use every day and then put in the dishwasher.   Donna is an avid gardener and we both find the fluid shapes and transitions in nature an inspiration.  We are grateful to have a close loving family, a lovely garden, dear friends and two terrific granddaughters.
